Historical Record

Provenance & Service

Developed by BAE Systems, the M777 uses titanium and aluminium alloys to bring the weight of a 155 mm howitzer down to just 4.2 tonnes — light enough to be lifted by an MV-22 Osprey. With Excalibur GPS-guided shells it can place rounds within 10 m at 40 km. It serves with the US, Canadian, Australian, Indian and Ukrainian armies.
