Historical Record

Provenance & Service

The 155 mm Gun M1 — the 'Long Tom' — was developed from a French Canon de 155mm GPF design and fielded from 1938. Towed by an M4 high-speed tractor, it provided long-range counter-battery and interdiction fire from Italy to Okinawa. It served on through Korea and was widely exported.
